Ukrainian citizens are able to stay anywhere within the EU for a period up to 90 days without any visa. The EU has implement the Temporary Protection Directive (TPD), to provide Ukrainians with immigration options throughout the EU. After arriving in an EU country, Ukrainian citizens will be able to apply for TPD status which will give them rights to travel freely, work and also give them access to social benefits such as housing and healthcare. The European Commission have developed this website to provide anyone fleeing the war with the latest information.

The temporary right of residence for people displaced from Ukraine is granted until 4th March 2026. The ID card for displaced persons confirms the temporary right of residence for displaced persons from Ukraine. The right of residence will be valid regardless of the period stated on this certificate, even after March 4, 2025. All persons who are registered in Austria as displaced persons from Ukraine and have a valid residence will automatically be sent a new ID card with an extended validity date.
If you want to apply for temporary protection in Austria please visit one of these registration offices, after your application has been successful you will be issued an ID card for displaced persons. If you stay in Austria for more than 3 days you are also required to register your address with the registration authority.
